Random Saturday

When I started blogging again, I really didn't want it to be always my digital scrapbooking stuff and that was all. I'm sorry that's what it's turning in to. It seems to be the one post that I have no problem getting together.  So, if you hate seeing my stuff, you might wanna move along 'cause this blog probably isn't for you.

Anyway, just gonna share some random thoughts today. You know, Random Ruminations and all.

We had an initiative on the ballot in November for a new library to be passed in an area in our county. We were really hopeful this year. This is the third time we've tried to get it passed in the last 12 years. We really thought this year was going to be our year. But it failed. And I was so mad. I mean, come on people! Who wouldn't want a library in their town? I'll tell you who. People who don't care what it's for...they just no way, no how, will pay for a tax increase in their area. I get it. The economy is bad. But a library isn't just books. It's help with a resume. It's computer training. It's children's programs. It's A PLACE TO LEARN. I couldn't do much more than just shake my head. I could get into politics and this side did this and this side did that, but this just sucks across the board.

What else? Umm, we got iPhones. That's pretty cool. I love being able to Facebook my sister and nieces. And my mom and kiddo when I'm at work. It's fast and I've used the Internet while out and about. I was out with friends, and we were talking politics (but being very nice) and we were talking about that one couple where he's a democratic political pundit and she's a staunch republican. All I could remember was that he was bald. So what did I Google on my phone at dinner? "The bald democra" and Google actually filled the rest in for me. Apparently, a lot of people have had the same question I did and all they could remember was that James Carville (ding ding ding!!) was bald.

My best friend is getting ready to visit us in a couple weeks, all the way from Ireland. To say that I'm excited it putting it ridiculously mildly. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. It's going to be so different to finally see her in person. What if she doesn't like me in person? I know that's not going to happen, but it's run across my mind.

One more thing that is on my mind today, because it just happened. Kiddo and I were driving home from my Grandma's house and this really jacked-up truck was driving beside me and being kinda obnoxious. You know the type...speeding up and slowing down right beside you, like "Hey, I'm cool stuff." Whatever dude. You and your redneck truck are super cool. When he passed, I saw a little boy in his front seat, I'd guess about 6-7 years old. I thought to myself that he shouldn't be driving like such an idiot with a kid in the car. Well, he shouldn't be driving like an idiot any time, but you know what I mean. THEN, he got all the way past me, and I saw was was plastered across his back window. In big, white letters, professionally done, I might add, was the phrase, "Raise your toys boys, 'cause fat girls can't climb." And my stomach dropped to my feet and I felt sick. That is just sickening. To 1.Think that way. To 2. Advertise that you feel that way. And 3. To subject children to that way of thinking. Maybe I'm a fuddy duddy. So be it. That makes me absolutely sick.

Ok, don't like to end on such a negative note, but that's that. I'll be back Monday with all my scrappin' goodies. Hope you enjoy.

Make Something Monday

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and if you're a Black Friday shopper, you got all the deals you wanted. I spent Black Friday cooking, as my family was coming to my house that Saturday for our Thanksgiving dinner. We had a wonderful time and ate like the pigs we are.

It was another wonderful week (or two, actually. I think I missed a post and will add stuff from last week. Oopsie!) in my digi scrap life! I love this hobby of mine!

What's {not} cooking Wednesday

Lordy, lordy, do I love food. I mean, I'll be the first to admit I have a problem. I could get real deep with this, but I'll just say I'm an emotional eater, I'm a bored eater, and I'm a "omg, that looks good" eater. But I've been really trying to be good for a couple months now. That is absolutely not to say I haven't had things I shouldn't have, but I'm trying to keep my portions in check, trying to keep my sugar to a very minimum (can anyone say Halloween candy at 3 am?) and just use common sense. So, here are a few things I've been stuffing my gob with.

Green seedless grapes and extra sharp cheddar. You know how at fancy parties and stuff they always have fruit and cheeses together? There's a reason, people. That crap tastes good together. Stuff your mouth with grapes, take a nibble of the cheese and blissfully close your eyes. The sweet grapes and the salty/savory cheese. Yeah. Yum.

Chocolate Rice Chips. They're like rice cakes, but a lot thinner and more like a potato chip or cracker. And I swear, they get better, they TASTE better, the more you eat. I try to only eat like 7-10 a day. They're my little treat.

Green beans. I eat them in bulk, practically. I put just a little bit of butter in the pan, and steam them for a while. Tish of salt and tons of pepper and I'm good to go.

I had a major obsession with McDonald's sweet tea. It was my crack. Well, I'm onto a new drink and the Golden Arches now. Even though it makes my order-taker person super pissy, usually. I love a large 1/2 diet lemonade, 1/2 unsweetened tea with one Splenda. It's tart and sweet and cold. Me likey.

Breakfast is my biggest problem. I just don't know what to eat and I never feel like eating until long after I've been at work a while. So I can't cook for myself, and I just haven't been able to figure out a good convenient food. I've seen tons of recipes that you cook ahead, in like muffin tins and whatnot, but I never seem to get around to doing that.

When it comes to dinner, I make what I usually make, to be honest. I haven't really switched it up too much, because I don't wanna be cooking tons of different meals for everyone in my house. But like I mentioned, it's portion control for me. I don't go back for seconds. I eat more veggies and/or fruits.

I'm not doing any rocket science here, people. I'm not doing anything you yourself probably haven't done before. But I've never really dieted before. I've always been one to take exercise over changing my eating habits, but I knew that had to stop. Anyway, let me know if you have any good, healthy ideas, and especially breakfast ideas.

Make Something Monday

OK peoples. I just have tons and tons and TONS of pages to share with you. I was behind a week, and last week was DST, so I have tons. For my non-scrapping readers, DSD stands for Digital Scrapbooking Day. It's the one day (well, we know how to party in our community, so we turn it into a whole extra-long weekend event) where we celebrate this wonderful hobby we do with games, chats, challenges, and SALES! Yeah baby! And designers release oodles of goodies during this weekend. So I had so much amazing stuff to work with and have a lot of pages to show you! So buckle up!

Something Fun Friday

We did a few fun things this past summer and fall, so I thought I'd share some pictures and layouts of all the fun things we did. I know I wasn't blogging this summer, so I feel like this isn't redundant (at least, that's what I'm hoping).

April: It all started with a picture frame. We got our family photos done in April, and my wonderful friend who takes our pictures (Val, of The Sweet Life Images), and she showed me the picture frames that they offer to their customers. Well, they are GORGEOUS. And I started dreaming of having a big family portrait on the wall. I didn't really dig the idea of my face being up on my wall all huge and stuff, but I was willing to sacrifice. I chose a beautiful blue. "Bahama Blue" is was called. Well, this got my gears turning and you know where this was going. A whole room redecoration. Which turned into a whole first floor redecoration.

The picture frame that started it all. (With the family portrait that is my FAVORITE EVER.)

So, here's all we did. Living room first:

This is the "accent wall" color we chose. See how it ties the portrait frame in? This is one wall in the living room, the wall that is is front of you and to the right when you walk in the living room. The shelf is a rough piece of lumber from my mom's boyfriend's sawmill. It still has the bark on the front side. The wreath is wrapped in burlap and has a cluster of rolled fabric flowers I made, and a cluster of buttons. My friend and I painted the bottles and I got a few pretties at Hobby Lobby.

I got these letters off of a copyright photostream on Flickr. I printed them off in sepia and painted the picture frames to all match and glued them onto another piece of rough lumber. This is over the entryway from the living room into the dining room.

This is across the (very long) room from the accent wall. So the blue accent wall is on one side of the room, and on the other is the matching frame all to tie it all together. The made all the prints on the wall. The far left one is a "word find" type page with the words "Family. Laugh, Love, and Happiness" in it. The far right one has significant dates in our lives. My and Brandon's birthdays, First Date, Wedding Day, and Maylee's Birthday. The "C" is a project I did by cutting out a whole bunch of  "C"s out of cardboard. I glued them together and wrapped them in the matching yard. I then covered a shoe box lid (!!) with wrapping paper that was a great find (brown and blue damask with a shine finish) and glued the letter onto it. The the one to the left of the date project is just a framed piece of scrapbook paper with a Scrabble letter crossword puzzle glued onto it. It has family words on it, too. Then a shelf under the portrait with pretties on it, and a couple shelves made of metal bookends, and we were in business!

My very eclectic photo wall (and my daughter's head). No my frames don't match. No, it's not perfectly symmetrical and perfectly ANYTHING, but I love it.

The dresser I got at a yard sale for $10 painted the same color as the accent wall. It is now our TV stand! Extra storage and pretty, too!

Our dining room. I saw this kitschy "EAT" sign on Pinterest (where else?!) and HAD to have one. Brandon cut all the wood for me and put them together and hung them up for me. And I love them! The to project on either side of the shelf are just framed scrapbook paper with blue spray painted spoons (that I got at Goodwill!) glued onto the paper.

Remember how I mentioned "eclectic" up there? Yeah, well that word describes our downstairs bathroom perfectly. We have the same rough-cut lumber with the bark still showing. Then just a bunch of pretty stuff thrown onto the shelves! I made the rolled fabric flowers in the upper left, a jar of beach stuff, a basket of pretty rocks and beach stuff, a plant, some flowers, an old picture of me and my sisters, an old drink dispenser and some cans. Some style I have, huh? And I can't forget to mention that frame in the middle. My friend wrapped that in jute twine and bailing twine. It came out really pretty (it was a 10 cent find at Goodwill while I was buying the spoon. I bought it just to be covered).

OK, so next Friday, I'll show you some pics of the places we went this summer. We had family visit on two different occasions, so we had lots of fun!
